Some of my builders rip a narrow strip of pressure-treated plywood and fasten it to the bottom of the wall, to be able to attach baseboard with nails. They also screw a sheet of plywood (cut slightly smaller than the cabinets) to the furring strips on the walls to receive kitchen or other cabinets, and butt the drywall to the plywood.
