We have found that using plastic ties between blocks on the first
course helps to keep block in line and makes the second course work
go faster. The plastic ties are used to connect each end of the
block to the next block by wrapping it around the closet web. We
have used this technique on Blue Maxx, Eco and Formtech. In the
case of Eco Block we reverse the second connector so that when you
tighten the tie the connector does not pop off. I am sure this process
can be used with most any block. The ties can be purchased at almost
any building supply store like Home Depot etc. You can also buy
a plastic tie puller similar to the Yankee used with wire ties.

I put the first block down at the highest point of the footing
and shim as needed to lay first course level. That way I don't have
to do any shaving, just shimming. I use a foam adhesive to secure
ICF to footing and fill any openings that concrete could come through.
