Commonly used methods

  • Method 1: Install anchor bolts in concrete in advance to attach top plates.  Nail joists or trusses to top plates

  • Method 2: Insert anchor straps in concrete in advance.  Nail straps directly to joists or trusses

I prefer attaching the top plate with sill straps. You can attach them to the plate faster than you can drill the plate and screw down J-bolts, and you have more flexibility in positioning the plate.
